DUSHANBE, 12.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya in Brussels, Belgium.

The discussion focused on current state and prospects of Tajikistan’s partnership with the World Customs Organization.

President Rahmon expressed his satisfaction with the level of relations and stressed that the Tajik government has been implementing reforms in all trade and economic sectors and is focused on improving customs activities.

They expressed confidence that the outcome of this meeting will be a new step towards strengthening and expanding fruitful bilateral relations.

During the meeting the sides discussed improving the customs administration, automating its information system with modern technology, modernization of customs infrastructure, and development of human resources in the field of customs. At the same time, they noted the necessity of intensifying cooperation with the World Customs Organization to increase the professional capacity of Tajik customs officials.

The implementation of documents adopted within the framework of the Organization, including the international Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (1973), the The Agreement on Trade Facilitation, and the compliance of the Customs Code of the Republic of Tajikistan with the said convention and agreement were also discussed.

Tajikistan adopted the norms of import customs duties in accordance with the standards of the World Trade Organization in 2018.

Improving of legislation in the field of trade and economy and implementing the export policy were also touched upon.

Full transition to international standards, which was developed by the World Customs Organization, will make a significant contribution to increasing trade turnover and imports, as well as the development of economic relations with neighboring countries.
